VOLK privacy policy
Last updated: October 25, 2026
This policy explains which personal data VOLK processes, why, who it is shared with and how you can exercise your rights. It applies to the VOLK app for iPhone and Android and to the volk.pet website.
1. Who is responsible
Luis Daniel Toral Ramírez, with an address at C. Zempoala 50, colonia Tatahuicapan, C.P. 91060, Xalapa-Enríquez, Veracruz, Mexico, is responsible for processing your personal data.
For anything about privacy: [email protected].
2. Personal data we process
Your account data. Your name, your email address and your profile photo, which we receive from Apple or Google when you sign in with them. If you use Apple’s “Hide My Email”, we receive a relay address, not your real email.
Your household data. The household’s name, who belongs to it, each person’s role, and the invitations you send or receive.
Your dogs’ data and their care. Name, breed, date of birth, sex, spay/neuter status, weight, photos, and the records you and your family make: meals, walks, play, medications and doses, vaccines, vet visits, grooming, reproductive cycle, notes, and who made each record. Your dogs’ data is not personal data in itself, but it is stored linked to your account and your family’s accounts. If you scan their vaccination card, we also store the brand, lot number and clinic of each vaccine or deworming treatment.
Location. Only with your permission and only while a walk is in progress: the GPS route, to calculate the distance and show the walk on a map. For the weather alert we use your approximate location, rounded to about one kilometre, which is not stored linked to your account. We don’t use your location outside of walks, or in the background for any other purpose.
Technical and usage data. Your device model, operating system, language, time zone, app version and in-app usage events. We store the notification identifier of each phone where you sign in, with its system (iOS or Android) and app version. It’s deleted when you sign out on that phone or after 120 days without use.
Crash reports. If the app crashes or hits an error, Firebase Crashlytics (Google) receives a report with the technical trace of the error, the phone model, the system and app version, and an installation identifier. It doesn’t include your name, email or account ID. We only use it to fix bugs.
Your subscription data. Your plan, its status and its dates. Payments are processed by Apple or Google: VOLK never receives or stores your card details.
Content you send to artificial intelligence. When you ask for an analysis (of a photo of your dog, of their vaccination card, of symptoms or of a walk), the photo or text is sent to our artificial intelligence provider to produce the result. The photo of the vaccination card is only used to read it and is not stored.
We don’t process sensitive personal data. Please don’t write sensitive data about yourself or others in the app’s notes.
3. What we use your data for
Necessary purposes, without which VOLK can’t work:
- Creating your account and signing you in.
- Running your household: letting your family see and log their dogs’ care, and alerting the other members when someone logs something.
- Sending you reminders and alerts: vaccines, medications, grooming and the weather before a walk.
- Calculating walk goals, statistics and streaks.
- Producing the artificial intelligence analyses you ask for.
- Managing your subscription and access to your plan’s features.
- Sharing your dog’s record when you choose to.
- Handling your support and privacy requests.
- Protecting the security of the service and preventing abuse.
- Complying with legal obligations.
Additional purpose:
- Analysing, in aggregate, how the app is used in order to improve it.
If you don’t want us to use your data for the additional purpose, write to [email protected]. Saying no doesn’t affect your use of VOLK.
4. Who we share your data with
With the people you choose. Members of your household see your name, your photo and the records you make. If you share a dog’s record, whoever receives the link sees the information you chose to share, until the link expires or you revoke it.
With the providers that run VOLK on our behalf, who may only use your data to provide their service to us:
| Provider | What for |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, sign-in and photo storage |
| Google (Firebase) | Sending notifications |
| Google (Firebase Crashlytics) | App crash reports (United States; kept for 90 days) |
| Google (Gemini) | Artificial intelligence analyses |
| Google (Maps) | Walk maps |
| Google and Apple | Sign-in |
| Apple (WeatherKit) | Weather information |
| Apple App Store and Google Play | Subscription billing |
| RevenueCat | Subscription management |
| Amplitude | App usage analytics |
| Cloudflare | Website and email |
Some of these providers process data outside Mexico, mainly in the United States. By using VOLK, your data may be transferred to those countries for the purposes in this policy.
We don’t sell your data or share it with third parties for advertising. VOLK shows no ads.
We will only share your data with authorities when a law or an order from a competent authority requires it.
5. Your rights
You can access your data, correct it if it’s inaccurate, delete it or object to its use for a specific purpose (your ARCO rights under Mexican law), as well as withdraw your consent or limit its use.
To do so, write to [email protected] with:
- Your name and the email you use with VOLK.
- Which right you want to exercise and over which data, as clearly as possible.
- A document proving your identity or, if you act on someone’s behalf, your authority to do so.
We will answer within 20 business days of receiving your complete request and, where it applies, act on it within the following 15 business days. If you disagree with our answer, you can go to the competent data protection authority.
6. Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. You can also request it by writing to [email protected] from the email you use with VOLK, with the subject “Delete my account”. Your account and your data are deleted. If you’re the only person in a household, its dogs, photos, attachments and history are deleted too; if the household has other members, it stays with them. If you signed in with Apple, we remove VOLK’s access to your Apple ID; if you signed in with Google, to your Google account. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel a subscription: cancel it in your Apple or Google Play account.
7. How long we keep your data
For as long as your account exists. When you delete it, we delete your data, except what a law requires us to keep. Backups are deleted as they roll over.
AI answers we keep to avoid repeating requests are deleted when they expire, between 6 hours and 90 days depending on the type. Crash reports are deleted after 90 days.
8. Minors
VOLK is meant for adults. A minor should only use it with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.
9. Website
volk.pet uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits in aggregate without using cookies. We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.
10. Users outside Mexico
If you use VOLK from another country, you can exercise the rights your country’s law gives you over your personal data by writing to [email protected].
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will publish the new version at volk.pet/privacy with its update date and, if the change is significant, let you know in the app.
